Nathan Luecking

Licensed Clinical Therapist (D.C. and Maryland)

Life transitions and stressors, anxiety, depression, and trauma can often get in the way of feeling like yourself and doing what is best for you. These barriers can mean losing interest in activities you once enjoyed, regularly feeling burned out or on edge, feeling disconnected from your friends and family, or simply not feeling like yourself. With my confidential, professional, and supportive counseling, we can understand and treat your mood-related symptoms.

Growth and change are not always easy, and it's important for you to find the best therapist for you. Therapy needs to be a place where you feel heard, respected, and cared for. I provide a consistent, safe, and professional space for navigating transitions, for healing, and for achieving your therapeutic goals.

About me

I have 13 years of experience providing therapy to adults and adolescents to treat anxiety, depression, trauma, anger-management, and substance abuse, among other concerns. As a DC-based therapist and counselor, I provide online therapy to people who live in the District of Columbia and Maryland. I also provide online therapy to people living internationally.

I earned my Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work (MSW) from The University of Chicago and completed my post-MSW supervision in a therapeutic special education program in Washington, DC. Since then, I have provided therapy and counseling to adults and adolescents in schools, in office settings, virtually, and in creative spaces. I have also served on public mental health task forces and councils in DC.

Originally from Chicago, I have called DC home since 2011 and live in Ward 5 with my daughter, wife, and cat. In my free time, I like to play music and explore the outdoors.

SERVICES

CLINICAL THERAPY

Therapy offers a safe and completely confidential environment to unpack, examine, and reflect upon thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In treatment, we examine personal experiences, explore emotional responses, and identify recurring themes, patterns, and fears. Releasing psychic energy in this way is itself a restorative process. In addition, therapy offers new perspectives, ideas, and opportunities to help you better understand yourself and achieve your goals.

I provide individual and family therapy to residents of the District of Columbia (Washington, DC) and Maryland, as well as to international clients, for a variety of concerns, including:

• Depression

• Anxiety

• Trauma

• Relational difficulties

• Interpersonal conflict

• Life transitions

• Loss and grief

• Stress management

• Substance abuse

• Emotional regulation

• Distress tolerance

• Anger management

SECURE ONLINE VIDEO THERAPY

I offer secure online video therapy through a HIPAA-compliant secure software or mobile app.  A broadband internet connection and a computer is all that is needed to access therapy services from a private location of your convenience.

Online therapy is currently open to residents of Maryland, the District of Columbia, and international clients.

DIAGNOSTIC ASSESSMENTS

Diagnostic assessments offer a comprehensive documentation of psycho-social history, current environmental factors impacting treatment, biopsychosocial screeners, and full clinical diagnosis per DSM-V criteria.

I provide diagnostic assessments for various purposes, including:

• Insurance Billing

• Formulating Treatment Plans

• Personal Records

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL CERTIFICATION

Emotional Support Animal (ESA) certification offers a diagnostic assessment, in addition to a written letter indicating the specified need for an emotional support animal. An ESA certification can be used to provide accommodations for support animals for use during airline travel and housing (where landlords impose pet restrictions).

Contact me for more information on how to qualify for an Emotional Support Animal.

Insurance

I currently accept and am in-network with:

  • United Healthcare

  • BlueCross BlueShield Carefirst and Blue Choice

  • Cigna and Evernorth

I also serve as an out of network provider. Because I am a licensed clinical social worker in Maryland and the District of Columbia, my professional services qualify for reimbursement under most insurance plans. My fees are generally considered to be within the acceptable range (UCR) by most insurance companies.

What is an out of network provider?

An out of network provider is a provider who has not contracted with your specific plan or insurance company to provide services for the company. I provide documentation of services which you provide to your insurance provider for reimbursement (depending on your plan).

Does being an out of network provider mean that I will have to pay more?

No. Most insurance companies offer a reimbursement percentage of the fee-for-service after you reach a certain threshold. Over the course of treatment, it ends up being cheaper than paying out of pocket, and depending on the plan, it could be cheaper than in-network options. Contact your insurance provider for specifics on your plan’s reimbursement policy.
